F. Schuyler Mathews published a guide to wild birds 100 years ago in
which he transcribed birds' songs into musical notation and sought to
capture their essence in prose. We talk with artist Judy Pelikan, whose
illustrations update Mathews' classic Field Book of Wild Birds and Their
Music.
