VA Birders,
On Saturday, March 20, NVBC had scheduled a "Twitching" (looking for
rarities) trip. Since nothing especially rare showed up nearby for us to
chase,
the 10 participants spent the morning at Blandy Farm in Clarke Co. Highlights
included an estimated 20 Tree Swallows, some of which were staking out nest
boxes along the entrance road when we arrived. We also had excellent, close up
views of a Brown Creeper (a bird which had previously eluded several of us in
2004), and a singing Pine Warbler. One lucky member of the group also got a
brief look at a Red-breasted Nuthatch.
On the way home, several of us made a brief stop at Sky Meadows State
Park in Fauquier Co., where we quickly spotted 3 lovely Red-headed Woodpeckers
along the entrance road just beyond the toll booth.
