Hi VA Birders,
My husband Lee and I spent the morning birding in the SE part of Gloucester
County as part of covering the Western Shore Marshes IBA. We found 58
species and had a great time until the weather got very hot and humid.
We were happy to find good numbers of 2 target species that we're tracking
in this area - Brown-headed Nuthatch (13) and Seaside Sparrow (17 ). Osprey
(27) and Great Egret (15) were also abundant.
We saw 4 Red-headed Woodpeckers, the most we've ever had here, and heard a
Yellow-billed Cuckoo repeatedly calling (a first for us in this area),
Enjoyed seeing 6 Bald Eagles, Yellow-breasted Chat and a fly-over female
Orchard Oriole.
