Our group of eight tallied 45 species this morning. Highlights included turkey
vultures bathing in the Potomac off the small sandy beach across from the third
overlook. Later attracted by splashing we came across a barred owl bathing in a
stream. The eagles' nest is empty with no eagles seen today. On a non
birding note we found a daddy longlegs carrying a small snail in the woods.
All welcome to join this regular Sunday walk that meets at 8:00 am in the
visitors center parking lot and proceeds through the visitors center courtyard
to the second overlook. -- Marshall Rawson, McLean VA
