Fellow Birders,
Adding to Todd Day's relayed report, three of us from Williamsburg, Fred
Blystone, Shirley Devan and myself, found the First Landing State Park Wood
Stork at the location previously described (adjacent to the "take only
pictures...sign) at 7:30 a.m. today. It flushed on its own and flew towards
Broad Bay. We were able to relocate the bird standing on the edge of a small
canal that drained into Broad Bay. It was immediately clear the stork was in
poor condition. Shirley was able to walk within 4-5 ft. of it and it failed to
respond in any fashion to her, nearby barking dogs, and/or joggers. We left
the bird undisturbed about 8:30 a.m.
