[va-bird] Wood Stork at First Landing State Park, 23Jan07

Following up on Bill Williams's note about the Wood Stork at First Landing
State Park -- You can see a photo I took of the stork on the web site for

While at the park, we also observed the following around the parking area
near the 64th St. entrance and along the 64th Street road as it extended
into the park:

Bufflehead (on Broad Bay)
Common Loon (on Broad Bay)
Brown Pelican (on Broad Bay)
Great Blue Heron (along road while looking for stork)
Great Egret (along road while looking for stork)
Red-tailed Hawk (along road while looking for stork)
Great Horned Owls (two talking at 7:30 when we got out of the car to look
for the stork)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
Blue Jay
American Crow
Fish Crow
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown-headed Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
Winter Wren
Hermit Thrush
American Robins
Brown Thrasher
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
American Goldfinch
House Sparrow

Then we drove down to the Oceanfront area (around 34th street by the
Belvedere Hotel), parked, and took our scopes out to the Boardwalk where we
saw the following:

Red-breasted Merganser
Red-throated Loon
Northern Gannett
Brown Pelican
Double-crested Cormorant
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Rock Pigeon
Mourning Dove
Red-winged Blackbird
Brown-headed Cowbirds
House Finch

Thanks to Fred Blystone for driving from Williamsburg to the Beach (and for
stopping at 7-11 for coffee!!) and for Bill Williams's help in identifying
birds.
