I saw flocks of chimney swifts (groups of 6 to 12) in four different places in
Prince William and Fairfax Counties today - all generally heading south. I
also had a flock of 12 rough-winged swallows and a purple finch heading south
near the Braemar subdivision off Linton Hall Road in Prince William County.
Yesterday afternoon in the same location, I saw a common raven flying north
over Broad Run and Linton Hall Road. I can't remember ever seeing ravens in
that part of PWC.

This evening, between roughly 6 to 6:15 PM, I was surprised to see dozens of
chimney swifts over Arlington, from Ballston southwest to Glencarlyn. They were
in small groups averaging 2-4, and the general movement indeed seemed to be
toward the south. This seems almost two weeks late to me. It would be
interesting to see if a lot of them pass through southside Virginia tomorrow.
Also out and about in large numbers this evening were large flocks of Robins
and Starlings, not so interesting. Cheers,
