Hello Birders,
I wanted to share with you the information on a banded Ring-billed Gull I
observed today (Dec. 4th) at Brown's Island on the James River (downtown
Richmond). The bird was banded with a field readable leg band that is
designed to be read without capturing the bird. This was the third banded
Ring-billed Gull I have observed in the Richmond are over the last few
winters. I reported the bird's code to a research project in Montreal (
http://www.goeland.uqam.ca/index.php/en) and have already gotten the
returns on the bird. Like the first two birds, it was banded in a gull
colony on an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River (Île
Deslauriers, near downtown Montreal). It was banded this June as an adult.
Good birding,
Ellison
