Well, we finally have a R.-thr. hummer (female) visiting our feeder regularly.
We'd had several stop by over the 5-6 weeks or so, but not till this past week
have any stayed around. A male stops by on occasion, but he is more often seen
partaking of the Butterfly Weed and Red-hot Pokers than the feeders. A new
event for our backyard is a female Hairy Woodpecker feeding a fledgling on suet
dough. We've had Downy, Pileated, and Red-bellied WPs do this with fair
regularity over the years, but this is the first for Hairy WPs.
