Va-Birders,

Are most people using BirdPods as an aid to identification of birds in the field or rather to "tape" birds, in other words, to use a speaker to amplify a BirdPod recording to bring a particular species out in the open for observation?

Jim,

I just purchased one with the 4G Nano and the speaker they recommend. I used it in the field for the first time today. I was impressed and so were the folks on the walk. It is a good teaching tool and we had fun with a couple of pairs of Carolina Wrens who seemed quite interested in the "new bird" in the area.

All,
I'm thinking about getting the software and CDs (The page says you have to use Stokes CDs) but am wondering if it is really THAT great.

Anyone using it?

If you have a better / cheaper system I'd be open to suggestions. I think learning to find my targets by ear will go a long way for me.

Thanks
Jim
