As I remember the 68040 emulation should be running 68040 optimized code slower than running 68020/881 optimized code on a 020/881 emulation. The 68040 misses some fpu commands (compared to 881). So more 68040 cpu code has to be emulated to gain the same result as running an optimized 020/881 code.
