The umpteenth annual Soddy-Daisy fall seasonal butterfly count will be this
Saturday, Aug. 26. We will meet at the Daisy United Methodist Church, 9508
Dayton Pike, Soddy-Daisy, TN at 9:30 and caravan from there. This will be the
third count this year in the Soddy-Daisy count circle, and I expect it to be
the best in terms of species found. Butterfly diversity is at its peak right
now! We tallied 56 species on the Tennessee River Gorge count on August 12 and
expect lots of butterflies this weekend. Weather is supposed to be good with
temperatures only into the mid-80's, so it shouldn't be blazing hot. Bring
sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes (not sandals or crocs, as we'll wade
through some tall grasses, and possibly some briars or poison ivy), wear
lightweight long pants, so you can tuck them into your socks as a chigger and
tick preventative. Plenty of water is important as you need to stay hydrated
and bring snacks that can be eaten "on the run". We usually don't stop for a
sit-down meal. As always a $3 per person fee, which goes to the North Amercan
Butterfly Association, will be collected. Stay with us part of the day, or all
day if you wish. If you have questions or need directions, contact me at
wgh@xxxxxxxxxx<mailto:wgh@xxxxxxxxxx> or (423) 326-9248.
