Greetings everyone,
This Saturday is the fall Clifton Bend count. We will meet at Carroll Cabin
Barrens SNA parking lot at 9:30 AM. See this link for directions if you are
unfamiliar with the natural area,
http://www.tennessee.gov/environment/article/na-na-carroll-cabin-barrens
The $3.00 fee to NABA will be collected as usual. This count has been one of
the better counts in West TN, with 50+ species being seen the past two counts
and over 1000 individuals. Traditionally we see lots of sulphurs and have had
counts with large numbers of hairstreaks, Clouded and Swarthy Skippers, and
Sachems.
Since this is a seasonal count, we are required by NABA to have at least 4
observers and put in a minimum of 6 party-hours, so please let me know if you
plan on being there. The weather forecast right now is good, with a predicted
high in the mid-80s and partly cloudy skies. We will plan on enjoying a nice
lunch at MeoMio's, then continue counting the rest of the afternoon. The
barrens are a haven for ticks, so bug spray is highly recommended.
See you Saturday!
