Greetings,
My wife, Ella, and I saw 7 beautiful Whooping Cranes this morning at
about 11 A. M. Central time. From Winchester follow 41A to Estrill
Springs, turn on Rt. 279s, go about 1 and a half or 2 miles to BethPage Rd,
follow it a short distance to a bridge at Paines Church Rd. The bridge is
over a mudflats section off the Elk River. You can park near the bridge
and there are some slick, old metal steps down the side after you step
across the rail. They were first visible from there, but a white van drove
a muddy trail down to where they were and with loud calls they all flew.
We thought they were gone, but we drove a short distance along the Paines
Church Rd to a pullover with a little trail down to the water level and
with our scope we had great views.
     Good birding to all.

Gizzard Cove,
