Hiwassee Refuge
Meigs Co.
This afternoon after the scheduled open house event at the Hiwassee Refuge,
Anita & Danny Gaddy and myself went across the river into Rhea Co. near
Garrison Bluff to look for Sandhill Cranes moving onto the mud flats to roost
for the
night. Cranes were everywhere as is customary for this location at this time
of the early evening and this time of year as well. As we were getting out
of our vehicles Danny (I think it was) spotted 3 white birds flying with
several Sandhills. We had just arrived! AND were already looking at 3 Whooping
Cranes at 4:50 PM. We talked a few minutes and as I was pointing out some of
the
familiar landmarks Anita spotted another Whooper only 5 minutes later at 4:55
PM.

All 4 Whoopers accompanied by a hundred or more Sandhill Cranes were flying
down river toward Hiwassee Island. I am interested if anyone on the list serve
was at Hiwassee Refuge about this time and may have spotted the same
Whoopers?
