The first White-throated Sparrow showed up at Bear Run, Jonesborough,
Washington County, on Wednesday Oct. 12 and I began scattering sunflower seed
on the ground next to the wild tangle beside my yard. Yesterday there were two
of them, one white phase, one buff phase. I'm bracing for the deluge.
Biggest consumers of the scattered seeds have been at least three pair of
Eastern Towhees, the odd Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and no other sparrows!
