19 April 2004 Greene County, TN: Round Knob (RK), Viking Mountain (VM), Greene Mountain (GM), various other sites in the Cherokee National Forest, and a few sites around Greeneville and Tusculum Linda Northrop and I birded several areas in the Cherokee National Forest this morning and afternoon, and I added a few stops later in the day back near Greeneville. Results were good. Many birds have poured into the county in the last two days. Highlights of the day were: Sharp-shinned Hawk (GM); Cooper's Hawk; Broad-winged Hawk (VM); Wild Turkey (2); Northern Bobwhite (near Tusculum); Solitary Sandpiper (2); Eastern Kingbird (9); Common Raven (RK); Red-breasted Nuthatch (RK); Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (21); White-eyed Vireo (first of spring); Blue-headed Vireo (10); Yellow-throated Vireo; Red-eyed Vireo (7--first of spring); Northern Parula (4--first of spring); Black-throated Blue Warbler (2 VM--first of spring); Black-throated Green Warbler (46); Yellow-rumped Warbler (2); Prairie Warbler (2 RK--first of spring); Black-and-white Warbler (15); Worm-eating Warbler (8--first of spring); Kentucky Warbler (RK--first of spring); Ovenbird (30--first of spring); Louisiana Waterthrush; Common Yellowthroat (2); Hooded Warbler (23--first of spring); Scarlet Tanager (5--first of spring); Indigo Bunting (first of spring); Chipping Sparrow (18); Savannah Sparrow (3); Dark-eyed Junco (3 at moderate elevation); Orchard Oriole; Pine Siskin (33+ RK and Paint Creek Campground).
