For Cornell's October Big Day, I stayed in Murfreesboro and did not have
time to venture to other parts of Rutherford County. I ended with 55
species - the best being a Lincoln's sparrow.
Last week was a real treat to walk across the campus at Middle TN State
University. Anytime you approached an elm tree, you could hear the
warblers concentrated in the tree from several feet away. If you walked by
other species of trees, it was silent. We had Tennessee, Cape May,
Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Magnolia, Nashville, and Palm warblers.
