Steve and I participated in Cornell’s Global Big Day yesterday choosing to stay within the confines of Montgomery County as we continue our personal county ‘big year’.

With contstant winds from the south and temperatures in the 80’s it was a relatively quiet day.  We’re still seeing a few neotropical migrants in and around our own yard.  We had 2 distinct MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, a SCARLET TANAGER, a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER.  Venturing out to the Yellow Creek area in the southwest corner of Montgomery County we had a GRAY CATBIRD and another MAGNOLIA WARBLER and 3 GREAT EGRETS.  Noteably missing from our lists was RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD.  The first day since April 3rd we haven’t seen at least one.

On another note this week in our yard we had our FOS WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and both RUBY-CROWNED AND GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS.

Happy Fall birding y’all!

Cheers!
