In short stops at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge viewing area in Meigs Co. at Birchwood today, I didn't see any sandhill cranes. In the late afternoon from the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park overlook, about 300 sandhills were observed flying into the mudflat areas in the Tennessee River near Hiwassee Island to roost for the night. Two whooping cranes were also seen. Charles Murray Birchwood, TN
