I needed to be in Jefferson City today (4 Dec 2013) and took time for a quick scan of the water above Cherokee Dam in Jefferson and Grainger Co. Nothing exceptional but some nice numbers of common species. I only had an hour and many birds were distant so there could still be a joker in there. Snow Goose, 2 adults and 3 immatures Horned Grebe, 75+ Pied-billed Grebe, 20+ Bonaparte's Gull, 250+ I checked the islands and several of the agricultural fields in the area for white grocery bags (a.k.a. Snowy Owls) but no luck. For those that may not have heard, this is turning into another big invasion year especially along the east coast with reports of at least 4 in NC, 1 in SC, and 1 in KY.
