Humphrey's County
NWR Duck River Bottoms Unit
Evening Listers...
Steve and I lead a Warioto Audubon Chapter field trip over to the Duck River
Unit today. We had 11 birders participating including Daniel Moss, Donna Ward,
Paul Schwab, Steve and Debbie Hamilton, Chris Sloan, Scott Block and two new
enthusiastic birders we met at the Sandhill Crane Festival at Hiwassee, Dave
and Piyachat Patlovich. The group located 67 species. Highlights included 2
Mute Swans, 1 Glaucous Gull, all 5 Geese species, including a flock of 36
Ross's Geese, 4 Northern Harriers, watching a Common Goldeneye perform a
courtship display, a curious in-flight diving display by a group of Great Blue
Herons none of us had seen before and a fantastic close up looks at a LeConte's
Sparrow. Kudos to Chris Sloan and Daniel Moss for leading the group thru the
field on the "LeConte's round-up".

As always it was a great day with wonderful folks!
Until next time,
Happy birding,
