The Cades Cove CBC was held on Sunday, December 27, 2015. It was a warm and
windy day with temperatures ranging between 58-75 degrees F. There was a
very good turnout for the count with 23 participants in 9 parties.
Few waterfowl were found though a small number of Bufflehead were present
in Cades Cove .Notable misses were Common Raven, Rufous-sided Towhee, and
Swamp Sparrow. Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, and White-breasted
Nuthatches were very active and in fairly high numbers. A notable find was
3 Bald Eagles, with 2 adults being seen in the Laurel Lake area. This is
the second year Bald Eagle has been recorded on the count. A single
White-crowned Sparrow was reported which is a new species for the Cades
Cove CBC.
