Yep...this works really well, and Rick has explained it perfectly. You can download and test it out to see if your users will be happy with it. Cheers. There's a product called Fineprint that installs as a printer on the server, and then lets you redirect the print job (and modify the look and feel etc including custom document templates). So the dumb app prints to a printer called Fineprint and the user can then specify where the print job will go. Works brilliantly and ended up costing less than $10 a head. Maintenance overhead is zero. regards, Rick Ulrich Mack Volante Systems ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Adam Tan Sent: Fri 7/07/2006 9:16 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: long printer names change from MPS 3.0 to PS 4.0 Hi Chad, Have you read anything about ThinPrint? There are plenty of white papers available. It works on top of Citrix environment and Terminal Server enchancing/optimizing the printing. http://www.thinprint.com http://thinprint.com/index.php?s=4120 http://thinprint.com/index.php?s=4226 Best regards, Adam ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Landin, Mark Sent: Friday, 7 July 2006 12:26 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: long printer names change from MPS 3.0 to PS 4.0 Screwdrivers from Tricerat? You can speficy your own printer name format (plus all the additional benefits of not hassling with drivers, etc). ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Schneider, Chad M Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2006 9:19 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] long printer names change from MPS 3.0 to PS 4.0 I have a set of servers, running an application on MPS 3.0, that I want to upgrade to PS 4.0, in my new farm. The application uses a printer which is specified in the INI for the application, for each user. IN MPS 3.0 the long printer naming is client\clientname#\printer, but in PS 4.0, it is client/clientname/printer. In order to upgrade the servers, I would need to alter hundreds of roaming profiles, changing each one's INI file to the new naming.... Any better suggestions?
