Nick, You can give this a try. It has worked for me to solve this problem in some cases. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com: 80/support/kb/articles/Q230/5/45.asp <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com :80/support/kb/articles/Q230/5/45.asp&NoWebContent=1&NoWebContent=1> &NoWebContent=1&NoWebContent=1 MS KB 230545 Apparently there is an issue with SMB Signing being required by some Win2K/2K3 servers and Windows 98 does not enable SMB signing by default. For Win 95 or NT clients prior to SP3 you can install the AD Client which is included on the Win2K Server CD. (There is a location where you can disabled SMB Signing via group policy on your server but you are lowering the overall security by doing that.) If the above fix does not work.... Another article indicates that you may need a patch. You will need to call Microsoft to get the patch and therefore may be charged for it. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=272594 (Yes I do use WINS in environments that contain Win9x or NT clients) Let me know if this works Thank you, Dave Getzler -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robinson, Nick Sent: Sunday, July 18, 2004 11:31 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] WINS I am having trouble with my WINS. I have a 2000 environment and all my users except for 2 run XP. The other 2 runs 98. The trouble I'm having is I don't see the users in network places anymore and the 2 users that run 98 can't login or connect to the server. Nothing was added except the latest windows updates. Any ideas other than wiping WINS and maybe starting over. BTW- does everyone here use WINS? Nick
