Hi Kevin, Sounds interesting.... You didn't copy the default user of all users profile from the other server? Other possibilities are that users haven't got appropriate access to some DLLs or directories or registry keys on app startup. Could be a timeout of some sort kicking in because of restricted access rights. Get a copy of file monitor and registry monitor from www.sysinternals.com and with you (admin) running filemon/regmon (and fileter set to application.exe (eg winword.exe is app affected is word etc) and a single non-admin user ruuning up that app, look for access denied or not found errors. Should give you what you need to find out what's broken. I have narrowed it down somewhat. If the user is part of the domain admins group, everything opens up quickly. If they aren't it's slow. Any idea's? -----Original Message----- From: Mack, Rick [mailto:RMack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 10, 2003 6:15 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Programs open slowly Hi Kevin, If you cloned the server a likely reason is that the cloned server doesn't have link file tracking disabled. Shortcuts are stord using UNC addressing, so you can get a scenario where shortcuts on the second server are actually pointing to apps on the first server. Kind of slows things down. Link file tracking can be turned off via a local computer policy. Some applications open slowly when users log onto the new server. Internet Explorer will open right away but it takes 15 seconds before it displays the actual page. Outlook also takes 10-15 seconds to open up. It's happening with a couple other applications as well. If I log onto the console, the programs open right away, but that user isn't using any policies. I've looked through my policies but I don't see anything that would be doing this. Does anyone have any idea's on how to fix this? ********************************************************* This Week's Sponsor - RTO Software / TScale TScale increases terminal server capacity.
