All that that Greg mentions are good. But my first thought - get a test server, uninstall (not disable) the AV. Test the logons. Are they back to "normal"? Or 'better but still not great?' I am sure others will chime in but I set A/V to not scan network files, turn off heuristics. Then i think there are some options related to scan on write vs scan on access vs scan on open and things you can mess with. Are you seeing it drag on your disk activity or CPU, memory etc? Perfmon is your friend.
