Also if you have other WAN sites you can purchase the unit with multiple
interfaces. You can then manage traffic on those interfaces as well. I
agree that their product is expensive but it is a great product if you
have the budget!

There are a number of linux projects that will do rate shaping. Have a
look at www.sourceforge.net. I doubt they will do the job as well as a
Packetshaper though.

In my experience I have found that a buying a Packetshaper once is much
less expensive than paying for monthy for a WAN link upgrade.

I hear Packeteer products are ridiculously expensive, especially after
you try to licenses it for more than a single T1. Anyone have more cost
effective alternatives?

I would recommend a PacketShaper by Packeteer. It has the ability to
prioritize traffic on your T1 Internet link. This way you can ensure
that a large ftp or http file download does not slow other user's
Internet access. Their product also has box to box compression but this
would not work on an Internet link.

Hi everybody (dudes & dudettes),
Our T1 to the internet is getting rather full in the afternoons, so
instead of having to go with another line, can anybody recommend any WAN
compression technologies out there to help decrease this bandwidth? Most
of our patrons are just surfing or playing games or reading email.

Happy Holidays and TIA! -George
