Eh?

If you can use LDAP, via another platform, you can access AD. I've done it
here - no need to start worrying about MS specific stuff - UNIX can access
MS AD via LDAP, as can countless other platforms / products - I've been
involved in such stuff for quite some time.

Download a vanilla LDAP browser, and point it at an AD, if you don't believe
me.

FWIW, it's done here, using Java code (via JNDI) from Unix platforms.

If you believe that Microsoft's LDAP implementation is different in any
*substantive* way, then by all means, cite the salient aspects - and I don't
just mean a couple of URLs or documents on the web, if you have truly found
accessing AD via another platform, using pure LDAP has not worked, or been
problematic - then by all means, splurg the details - I would be intrigued,
and perhaps others would be, too.
