I trialled it, and demo'd it for an internal feature request. I had some gripes with the installation / configuration. I did consider the whole developer / CDA thing - but for the functionality that the business requested, it was a poor and expensive match - they weren't won over with it. Sure I could have developed something within it to more closely match what they wanted, or just develop my own solution that would exactly match what they wanted - and in that example, that's just what I did, saving on hardware and software costs for MSAM. Basically the business wanted a custom desktop, with big (and I mean BIG) buttons (not icons) for the business apps, then they wanted the top half of the screen to be a notice board type area - with the day and date across the top, then a message area where they could update with urgent or important messages to the end users - which could contain hyperlinks to documents or web pages. I did it in HTA, so I saved on any hardware requirements for a portal / web served product / application, plus the development was in-house so only cost time for the software. They have an admin utility that allows them to populate the message area with HTML of their choice (so they can use colours, big fonts, emphasis, hyperlinks), and it will update within a tuneable period (I use somewhere in the region of 30s-45s - so messages get out to the audience pretty quick, really) to all the desktops that run it as their interface. Given what they'd asked for, MSAM at first seemed the obvious answer - but as the built-in CDAs weren't really what they were looking for, and given how expensive as a product it was, there was just no way they were going to go for that. I think for Citrix app-served type portals, it could be very useful, but portal software tends toward being pretty darned expensive, so I think you have to have a definite need before committing to it.
