fair do's

I took it as you didn't want to redirect to a network drive (for obvious
reasons), and was unhappy with the fact that you've got punters who aren't
happy with their C: drive being blocked.

But even looking at the posts you've given there is nothing stopping you
redirecting their *local* profile directory to another drive letter - You
then allow this drive letter, and set the registry to redirect to that
drive. (unless you've used up all of the drive letters). That way, they keep
the fast drive access (because its local) , but aren't accessing the 'system
drive' - because set their c:\documents and settings\theirname is actually
their drive P:\ (or whatever)

All things go well Ms P Unter should know no different :)

I cannot disagree and its not something i wasnt aware of. :¬)
I had considered it and i'd mentioned this twice in earlier posts
(28/10/2005 see below).

What i didnt do was state the reasons why ... performance/features/griping
users.
Ive got 2000 plus users to roll this out to who are mainly pc users and they
are not used to having locked down sessions.
I went through a load of grief with Lotus Notes 5.12 which did pretty much
the same thing when opening attachments. I sorted out that pain in the
backside by migrating to Notes 6.5.4 and making a simple Notes.ini change.

fair enough, but at least one answer is 'yes, if you move the local settings
directory' ;)

Quite happy for you to hold out for something better - just wanted to check
you hadn't missed this one out :)

Have you moved the local settings folder, which should contain the IE
temporary files and the personal temp, which should cover what you need?

For other apps apart from IE yes i agree.
Folder redirection is working fine.
IE ignores folder redirection when you open an embedded doc in a web page.

By redirecting My Documents and then making My Documents the default save
location, the user will not be accessing a drive letter and documents will
go to the desired location.

Hi Roger,

Im doing the same thing apart from using Res Powerfuse and i hide
drives/restrict drives using a GPO.
Because of the drive restriction a locked down user will have the
Aministrator has restricted etc etc message. They can then select the drive
letter required after clicking Ok.

Similar behaviour is found with Outlook with attachments and restricted
drives. The work around for that is to specifiy the secure temp file with a
reg hack or custom policy.

I redirect my docs to their home drive. I hide access to all drives
except for designated mapped drives and the home drive. I'm using
PowerFuse to hide the drives and not GPO, though.

When they try to download in IE, they are able to select any of the
drives that aren't restricted.

Is this what you're after?

Don't know about changing default download folder, I do know that you
can redirect the Temp Int FIles via a reg edit (I don't recall it
being available from w2k folder redirection GPO's).

Go to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Us
er
Shell Folders" and look the the "cache" entry.
