Yes, we always recommend "N+1", that is, the number of servers you need =
to
comfortable host all your sessions plus one additional server. Not =
everyone
is always able to do this, but it is ideal. Higher end environments with
actually go with N+2, N+3, etc.

One way to fudge this slightly when additional servers in not an option, =
is
to recommend a dedicated data collector be used with identical hardware =
and
software config. In the event of a failure allow the DC to host =
sessions.
Again, this is not ideal, but may be necessary in some situations.

I have one client that currently has 4 Xpe boxes servicing approx. 100+
users per machine (not by my recommendation). As I explained to them, if =
one
of the servers goes down, the redistribution of the users over the =
remaining
3 servers potentially could cause a degradation in overall =
performance.=3D20

My question is what do you guys and gals who have 100+ users per server =
do
if one goes out? Do you maintain enough servers to handle the extra load =
in
emergency situations?=3D20

I usually recommend that clients keep the user load to 35-45 users per
server max. and purchase more hardware if more users are connecting.

In an earlier e-mail on this list Sjolund, Dag was seen to say: "we
routinely have 250+ concurrent sessions per server"

Saweeeet. Is what I say to that. The largest number of concurrent
connections I could ever get or have worked on was about 120 at one =
client
with 110 per server (taking second place) at another.=3D20

Both of these were running Term EM applications on older quad =
xeons.(read
500mhz and a little up no 3.0 ghz stuff)

So the question that came to my mind is: How many users are YOU getting =
per
box? And on the big ones (100+ users) what types of apps are you =
running?
