First of all I wanted to use W2K XP Prof SP1, german with GPMC but I couldn't find the needed Hotfix XP QFE Q326469 (I already asked > in that > list) > Because nobody could help me I installed a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server RC2, english in a Vmare still using the GPMC version from the official homepage (RTM) and got > the already published errors. I have to further questions: If adm-files are converted in any way to 2003 version to be read by GPMC are they still working without > problems in my W2K-Domain ? If I reimport a converted adm-file to my Policy, are the allready made settings still there ? Many thanks in advance for all your help on > that. I am very curious on testing with a translated PIAB2 adm. Hi Daniel... Thank you for clarifying your setup. I believe that your problem is not related to the other issue being discussed, where .adm files designed for Windows 2000 may fail when used against a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. You do not have a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain so you should not be affected by this issue. Your problem is with the actual GPMC program on the management console you are using, and/or the domain you are querying, and doesn't seem to be related to .adm issues. (Remember the GPMC is only an alternate interface to manage group policy, it is not the group policy itself). Your problem may be that the operating system language (for at least some of your domain controllers) is a different language than GPMC, and so you require QFE 326469. My recommendation to you is to go back to your original installation of GPMC on W2K XP Professional SP1 German, install QFE 326469, and report back to us on the list. To obtain QFE 326469, refer to article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326469 (link may wrap) and call Microsoft. There will be no charge for the hotfix provided you tell the initial contact that you require this hotfix to resolve the problem described in the article. (BTW, I googled "326469 gpmc download" and found two third-party download locations... as this is a management console utility only you may want to take this risk.) Using W2K XP Pro will eliminate both the Windows 2003 interaction, and the other possible source of your problem which is an issue with your VMWare installation. Once you have this working on W2K XP Pro, you could try putting the GPMC on Windows Server 2003 (including QFE 326469) and let us know how that goes. Kind regards...
