You can essentially scale up until you run out of kernel memory or PTEs.
If you're applications are memory hungry, you may be able to scale your
server to 8 - 16gigs.

O.K. so just so that I have it straight: it would never make sense to put
more than 4GB of RAM in any Citrix or Terminal Server running a 32 bit
operating system because of the kernel memory limitation?

Yes, that limit exists in Enterprise because it is still a 32-bit OS.

The kernel memory limitations disappear (for practical purposes) only when
implementing a 64-bit OS. This kernel limitation is an architectural
decision separate from the 4GB memory limit. The limitation used to be a lot
more severe in Windows 2000, and was relaxed significantly in 2003, but
still exists except in Server 2003 64-bit (any edition).

Does this 4GB limit apply to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise version as well?
I guess what I am asking is if I am running Server 2003 Enterprise, how much
RAM can I get in the box and utilize with Citrix/Terminal Services?

Is it just a clear cut definition of 4GB RAM limitation for Citrix/Terminal
Services regardless of which operating system version you are using?

I do understand what you are saying about ESX, but I am just looking for
limits on non-virtualized environments.

Thanks!

Where you break that limit is going to a 64-bit OS.

Another option is to put additional memory into a server, build it as
an ESX host, and then build several Citrix servers on that host, each
using the required amount of memory, under 4 GIG.

How much RAM can a Citrix Presentation server support? I know that
with
Windows Server 2003 Standard I am limited to 4GB, but with Enterprise I
can
go up to 64GB. However, I read this article from Brian Madden:
http://www.brianmadden.com/content/article/The-4GB-Windows-Memory-Limit-What
-does-it-really-mean-

and it sounds like there is a 2GB kernel memory limit regardless of
which
version of Windows 2003 Server you run and with Terminal Services, all
users
are affected by this kernel memory limit. Is that a fair statement?

Without virtualizing, how much RAM can I realistically put in a Citrix
server and take advantage of?

Thanks guys!
