Last Friday I finished work and commuted downstairs to the front porch and saw a new yard bird - Yellow Warbler - taking a bath in one of the bird baths. An Indigo Bunting male drops by in the evenings for a bit. A female Painted Bunting is becoming a regular at the feeders. Have not seen the male lately. Then MARTINS started coming to the new gourds. They land on them and a few have gone in. We had 4 females and 1 male in the area at the most. Seems very late but maybe these are the little ones from last year. Last week we were in Beeville on Wednesday for a funeral. Thursday morning we stopped at the south rim of Choke Canyon state park. Many Pyrroluxia's, Western Kingbirds, Roadrunners, a Bobcat, Vermillion Flycatchers and saw a pair of Altamira Orioles at one of the residences. I have seen them around the border but never this far north. Also a singing Olive Sparrow. Man - that park must not get any funds from the state. Nothing manned, everything locked up except the gate. Holes in the roofs of the picnic places.
