As a weekender participant, I will tell you that the entire weekend was fun
and very birdy. The cold and windy conditions were no deterrent to a bunch
of determined birders. For me, the day that I was scheduled to go on the
(cancelled) Lake Tawakani trip I went on a trip to Lake of the Pines
instead and had a terrific time with David Brotherton and his host of other
local leaders. It's hard not to have a great time seeing White-breasted and
Brown-headed Nuthatches, Red-headed and Downy Woodpeckers, numbers of
Common Goldeneyes and other east Texas specialties. I would like to add my
thanks to the Tyler Audubon members who worked so hard on our behalf, and
to DD Curry for conceiving the idea in the first place.
