I have had the occasion to visit with Mark a couple of times during the past few years and know his point of view. He loves studying birds and photographing them, as we know from his tern studies. He feels that there are interesting birds to see and learn about everywhere you go. He can't comprehend why anyone would want to drive out of their way to twitch a bird for their list. If you want a rare bird, go out and find one. They're out there. It just takes a lot of perseverance and time. And if you protest by saying then you won't share your bird with him, he's OK with that. Because he's not going to chase after your bird anyway. Mark found an interesting tern that may be an Elegant Tern and shared that with us. I'm don't think he's obligated to do anything more. It would be nice, because I would go chase after it. On the other hand maybe I should should be out on the coast studying terns. No telling what I might find, what I might learn and how much I would enjoy the discovery.
