At least two Golden-fronted Woodpeckers have been seen at Sabine Woods, one a male seen since April 25th, by Bryan Tarbox, and subsequently by many others, the other a female seen on May 18th by John Haynes and me. The male has some features possibly suggestive of Red-bellied ancestry (more distant ancestry than first generation hybrid): a red nape, mild black speckling on the rump, and thin irregular longitudinal white lines running down the centers of the central tail feathers. The female seems to be pure Golden-fronted. Both frequent the area of the drip, including the tree noted by Ray Porter (one photo below shows the male looking out from a hole in that tree, while the female shots are taken at the tree).
