TexBirders, Checked Thompson's Fish Camp on the end of Tri-Cites Road (just south of the Fred Hartman bridge) in Baytown at 4PM this evening. Was hoping to see the recently reported Western Grebe and there were two! Both showing their left hand sides which looked pretty Western as opposed to Clark's. They were actually in quite close, but the shimmer was a bit tough. So, check both birds carefully if you can get a decent look. Other highlight for me was the large and seemingly growing Red-breasted Merganser raft. I counted by tens and got up to 600! Used to seeing thousands in a day back on the Great Lakes, but this was my largest ever grouping in Texas. This is a great bay for water birds and has been known for years as the spot to get Horned Grebes for the Houston CBC. Also lots of gulls, terns and other divers. Take your scope if you have one.
