The fog listed a bit on the drive down to the bay at frozen point where the
krider type red-tailed hawk was on the fence post where it has been
photographed lots recently. It was a little soggy and makes a great mystery
bird picture

A few seaside sparrows popped up on the fence

The common bird along the bay were the sedge wrens where up to a dozen
would pop up at each stop

The were damp and when they flew to a new perch, they would leave behind a
trail of water droplets

They were joined by a few house wrens

All the little birds ignored the numerous harriers perched on the fences
and lumps in the field to try and dry. Here a gray ghost

Just up the way, marsh wrens were also perched out in the open

Sometimes when you are watching the wildlife, you discover that the
wildlife is watching back

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663262

They were smiling with the arrival of the sun

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663261

The bird of shoveler pond continued to be the lingering fulvous whistling
ducks

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663267

They were scattered all around in small groups with lots of trading back
and forth and joining new groups

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663268

When birds would go by, necks would go up and some would go off for greener
pastures

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663270

The really big feet gives them a great push off the water

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663271

Killdeer were cold around the office buildings

One of 3 merlin at the refuge

Short-billed dowitchers at Rollover Pass were catching lots of very long
worms

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663279

The worms took only a little work to find

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663281

A herring gull in Crystal Beach was much lighter than its beach mates and
maybe should be getting a lighter colored eye

Bob road had a lingering scissor-tailed flycatcher for maybe my last of the
year and my latest ever by a couple of weeks

http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153663284

One of the field marks to help distinguish between the 2 local cormorant
species is the corner of yellow behind the beak gape which is very rounded
in the double-crested cormorant.

But a turn of the head can change the shape of the area

And again the official merlin of the Houston Audubon society
