While we were worried about the low numbers of hummers on the coast we had a respectable number (though not the normal swarms) of Ruby throated Hummingbirds during our Xtreme Hummingbird Xtravanga it turned put to be an ok day. Banded about 30 hummers including one Rufous and hosted about 450 guests (100 kids) who love to see hummers. We have not tallied final numbers because we still have one more Saturday for the event, next Saturday September 21st. Thanks to all who visited and please tell your friends to come see us next Saturday! Other migrants encountered today at the sanctuary: Dicksissal, Eastern Kingbird and a Traill's Flycatcher. Special thanks to banders Kay & Robert Lookingbill and also the 20 volunteers who helped make this event a fun day afield for all. We love sharing birds with people, the future of conservation! Life is better with birds!
