Hi all - The Masked Booby with the blue band and white codes that we photographed off South Padre Island was finally claimed by the researchers - here's the information. I've now received photos of a third bird from this project, so please check all Masked Boobies that you see or have photographed this year for color bands! Send reports directly to M..C. Marlenne A. Rodríguez Malagón at marlenne.rodriguez@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Here's the report from Marlenne on our bird off SPI - That bird (216) was banded in Muertos Island, part of Alacranes Reef at 22º 25.164 N, 89º 42.943' W. It was banded on May 26th of this year (843 km away and 3 months later of your sight), a recently fledged bird of 1.67 kg of beauty. It is a great news to hear that you see one of our birds. It is the first record that somebody reports. We started to band masked boobies last September and we plan to continue at least for a couple of years. This banding program is part of a restoration project that involved invasive rodent eradication on three islands of Alacranes Reef. Reproductive success of the colony is one our major goals among others. So far we have banded more than 600 birds between adults and juveniles. Great news!
