[texbirds] Eastern Williamson County 11/1/15: Mountain Plovers, White-tailed Hawk, etc.

Texbirders,

I birded eastern Williamson County (and a bit of Bell) from 7:00 am - 2:30 pm
today. The birding route consisted of Taylor to the Granger Lake area to the
area southeast of Thrall and back to Taylor.

Highlights of the 78 species for the day are below.

Round Rock, TX (15 miles north of Austin)

Black-bellied Whistling-Duck: 18 at Murphy Park, Taylor
Greater White-fronted Goose: 20 at CR 438 sheet water
Eared Grebe: 24 at Friendship Park, Granger Lake
Black-crowned Night-Heron: 1 adult at Murphy Park, Taylor
White-tailed Hawk: 1 juvenile on Alligator Road (Found by Randy Pinkston on
10/31. Seen in both Bell and Williamson Counties before it soared into the
clouds shortly after noon)
Mountain Plover: 4 in CR 352 "megafield" (Randy Pinkston found 31 on 10/31 in
southern Bell Co.)
Franklin's Gull: 1200 in three kettles on south side of Granger Lake
(conservative estimate)
Burrowing Owl: 2 (returning birds on CR 352 and CR 356)
Merlin: 1 taking an American Pipit on CR 424
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher: 5 on FM 1063 and 2 on CR 436
Tufted Titmouse: 2 on CR 473
Sprague's Pipit: 18 in multiple locations
Lark Bunting: 24 on CR 354
