Hi, Jane!
I can't speak for Travis Co., but I've had them singing at Bentsen SP here
in the Valley about an hour before sunrise.
Hope this helps! MB

Subject: [texbirds] Advice on locating an Eastern Whip-poor-will
Hi, I know there is a short window starting now to find one of these in
Travis County.
I have scoured the eBird records, and see that most are heard calling
between 7 and 8:30 p.m. in various locations.
What about a.m. - how much before dawn do you think? An hour, 2?
Last, best habitat? My quickest access is to closed-canopy Golden-cheeked
Warbler habitat, but maybe more open locations are better?
Thanks for any insight.
