Hi Jane we haven't had time to go out for nightjars but when you're looking for
whippoorwills you have to be out after sundown and they only call for the first
10 to 15 minutes and then they're quiet so you only get a little bit of warm-up
and then a few calls and then they're quiet. We haven't tried in the morning

Hi, I know there is a short window starting now to find one of these in
Travis County.
I have scoured the eBird records, and see that most are heard calling
between 7 and 8:30 p.m. in various locations.
What about a.m. - how much before dawn do you think? An hour, 2?
Last, best habitat? My quickest access is to closed-canopy Golden-cheeked
Warbler habitat, but maybe more open locations are better?
Thanks for any insight.
