Greetings All:
I spent eight hours in Hale County today - full report will be posted later -
and wanted to get out the highlights ASAP.

1 Greater White-fronted Goose, 12 Snow Geese, and 7 Ross's Geese at a playa
just north of Hale Center.

1 female and 1 male Wood Duck as well as a subadult Black-crowned Night Heron
at the Plainview Duck Pond.

1 Virginia Rail and 1 male Common Yellowthroat at the marsh just southwest of
the Plainview Landfill.

2 Soras, 1 Wilson's Snipe, and 1 male Common Yellowthroat at the Running Water
Draw crossing of FM 789.

1 Merlin near the intersection of CR 135 and CR EE.

8 Chestnut-collared Longspurs and 38 McCown's Longspurs at the playa at the
intersection of FM 789 and FM 37.

1 Orange-crowned Warbler at the Petersburg Landfill and 1 Pine Siskin at the
adjacent Petersburg Cemetery.

25 Greater White-fronted Geese, 91 white Snow Geese + 7 blue Snow Geese, 78
Ross's Geese, 2 Canvasbacks, 1 American Avocet, 2 Burrowing Owls, 80+ Lapland
Longspurs, 40+ McCown's Longspurs, and 20+ Chestnut-collared Longspurs at the
playa at the intersection of FM 54 and CR T.  Also 7500 or so Sandhill Cranes
and thousands of white-cheeked geese (mostly Canada).  The longspurs were
coming in, in groups of 25 to 125 to dip in the shallows at the southwest
corner of the playa - numbers had to be estimated and I tried to skew
conservatively low - and sometimes remained on the ground for almost ten
seconds (woo hoo) allowing, by longspur standards, excellent looks through a
spotting scope!

1 Redhead, 8 Killdeers, 2 Amerian Avocets, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Lesser
Yellowlegs, 7 Least Sandpipers, 12 Long-billed Dowitchers, and 2 Wilson's
Snipes (pretty much the entire suite of shorebirds possible in our area during
late November) at the playa at the intersection of FM 54 and Interstate 27.

There was also one incidental highlight from Lubbock County: 1 adult Harris's
Hawk near the intersection of 4th Street and Quaker Avenue.
