One remark: i drew up the TOP223 as a simple transistor, but of course I'm
not sure that's what it is. It's a 3-legged TO-220 housing which reads

H143
TOP223Y
162968

So it's not the 4-legged fairchild TOP223Y. Any ideas what it might be
exactly?

kind regards,

Subject: [TechAssist] need help w/DVD Player SMPS

Hi.
I drew up the SMPS schematic from a Terratec DVD player, but I've found
these "stand-alone" SMPS in more than one cheap DVD player (mostly these
have a "computer-like" DVD player unit, one with a standard SCSI cable and
the typical PC power supply cable).
You can find this schematic at
http://users.pandora.be/vanslycken/dvdvoeding.bmp - it's about 200k. I hope
it's a bit legible.
THE PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT is that it tries to start over and over again, a
couple of caps on the secondary were blewn and there was a bad contact on a
diode on the primary side (indicated with a (*) on the schematic). I
suspect the problem is on the primary, I've tried taking out the +5V line
diode, and it still does the same. It's in some kind of "burst mode", tries
to start up with 1 second intervals.
The +310V on the primary side capacitor is good too, and I measured every
diode for shorts or opens, but they all seem OK. I'm out of ideas...
I haven't been working on this kind of stuff without a service manual very
long, so I'd appreciate any help.
kind regards,
