probably an intermittant Y main or buffer bd.
With the overall image degradation, I'd suspect the Y
main more so. The buffers might just affect lines
upper or lower of center, but not all over.

Also, are you sure the SMPS is stable?
I HATE INTERMITTANT PROBLEMS!
