Leoy... Look for that 110K(120K) resistor under the power resistor behind the HOT. I've had two sets with multiple failed 110K's...I think they had a batch problem when these sets were built. One of those sets was thermally intermittant...convergence as you describe was one of the manifestations of the problem.
