I don't mind talking to most people when they come to the shop. I hate service calls so I don't do them. We should do a poll and find out if this is true for most technicians on this list. Just a thought. I do enjoy going on service calls and meeting different people, but I don't like when they hang over my shoulder and don't say much when I try to strike up a conversation. NESDA did nothing for me in that regard, although I did get to talk to the "heavy hitters" while they were in party mode...not much hard core business happened there. I found NESDA to be too clannish ( on several levels). I was more interested in industry politics than tech training-which made some people uncomfortable. Apparently you fit in just fine. I am an an "only child" which makes me anti-social by definition...oh well, we all have our little crosses to bear... ;-) Jim McVey McVey Alltronix 327 Broadway Newburgh N.Y. 12550 "If it doesn't play... I'll bet you already had ASC status on them 20 brands you now service, long before you ever became a member of Nesda. I know from your posts that you were once a member, just like I was. I quit because of financial problems, NOT because I thought it was a useless organization. Although I TOO disagreed with many of the projects they were pushing,.....I am still convinced that by being an active member of Nesda, the manufacturers will be more likely to look at your profile as someone who they might want in their corner of the ring. In otherwords it is easier for those service centers, who want to continue, and see a future in this business, to become an ASC for a major manufacturer, by first becoiming a member of Nesda. Association, and contacts at conventions, etc., makes it easier. I plan on re-joining them again before their next convention this summer. I MISS being a part of that organization. I don't promise I'll make it to Orlando this summer,....but,....maybe Vegas, Nashville, or Reno, in 2006. Jerry from Sencore called me this morning with the details of this email =3D I recieved yesterday. This LCD monitor course is essentially to familiarize techs with repair of the LCD PC monitors. How to tell if,or=3D20 whick backlight is bad, invertor troubleshooting, locating the parts=3D20 sources, etc. The 3 day course"introductory price is $1500.00. Regular price will be $2500.00. I asked if there will be a course on CD with workbook like the monitor=3D20 repair course I bought years ago. Said no. And only in the mentioned=3D20 locations. He said this is also helpful in component level repairs of the LCD big=3D20 screen TVs. I said those are board replacement, and if you know what=3D20 parts are bad on those (multi layer) boards, the mfgr doesn't support=3D20= that anyway. Jerry disagreed. That kind of ended the call. I didn't mean to be blunt, but I said i=3D20 thought it was a heap of cash for a generac course to fix PC LCDs that=3D20 are dropping in price fast. That outlay of money for travel, lodging and =3D the course would never be recouped. He disagreed, said they are getting=3D20 loads of calls. Maybe I am all wrong. Jerry is a very nice, helpful salesman. I just can't justify the money.=3D20 Nor do I have it to "invest" in this.
